A 22-year-old man wanted for armed robbery is in the Collier County jail after a brief pursuit Monday night in Golden Gate that ended with him jumping from a moving vehicle in a failed bid to escape arrest by deputies.
Marquee Deshaun William of Ocala is charged with fleeing and eluding, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, failure to register as a convicted felon, driving on a suspended/revoked license, and possession of marijuana and narcotic paraphernalia.
Collier County Sheriff’s Office reports gave this account:
Around 9 p.m. a deputy on routine patrol observed a white Nissan Altima with no headlights on traveling east on Dudley Drive. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver, later identified as William, sped up and went into a nearby hotel parking lot. Deputies engaged in a pursuit which quickly ended when William jumped out of the moving vehicle, leaving it to crash into the gates to the Dumpster area of the hotel.
William jumped a fence and ran toward Interstate 75 where he was quickly apprehended by responding deputies.
William had more than $6,000 cash on him when deputies searched him. A search of his vehicle turned up marijuana in the center console and 9mm bullets in the glove box.
Further investigation by deputies found that William had an outstanding warrant from Marion County for armed robbery and an outstanding warrant from Lee County for failure to appear on a driving on a suspended/revoked license charge.
